The Ski Area

The Serre Chevalier ski area has 250km of pistes winding down the Valley from the Col de Lautaret to Briançon and is one of most exciting snowboard and ski areas in the southern French Alps. The resort consists of more than 12 small villages and hamlets spread between 4 main ski lift served villages of Briançon 1200, Chantemerle 1350, Villeneuve 1400 and le Monetier les Bains 1500. Serre Chevalier is positioned at the gates of the Ecrins National Park in the southern french alps with great snowboarding and skiing, authentic and charming high mountain atmosphere and peaceful skiing across Europe.  

The variety of Skiing in Serre Chevalier is very great, whatever your fitness level or technical ability. Serre Chevalier has skiing and snowboarding on 115 marked runs stretching some 17 km down the valley from Briancon to spa town of Monetier Les Bains. Serre Chevalier boasts a superb snow record with it taking lots of snow falls from strorms coming in from the south. You often find that the Serre Chevalier ski area can double in size after a major fall of snow with a huge areas of off-piste.

Serre Chevalier Snow Making
Serre Chevalier ski resort operates an extensive snow making network to ensure good ski conditions all season long. Some 300 snow cannons operate all through the resort of Serre Chevalier primarily providing a top-up for 146 hectares of pistes.

Serre Chevalier is one of the biggest ski resorts in Europe. The Serre Chevalier Valley covers 250 kilometres of pistes, at altitudes of between 1200 and 2380 metres, for everyone from beginners to expert skiers! 
Serre Chevalier is a long south-facing valley between the Col du Lautaret and Briançon with a dozen villages and hamlets dotted along the way, ranging from the ultra modern to the most traditional.

Location 
Serre Chevalier is in France’s Hautes-Alpes department, part of the PACA or Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The Hautes-Alpes is France’s only department in the alpine chain situated entirely in the mountains, making it the highest department in the Alps.
The ski area covers several ’communes’ (the name for France’s smallest administrative districts).
